March 21st is World Sleep Day. Although the weather is gradually warming up, it's still easy to feel drowsy. Choosing a good mattress can improve our sleep quality, allowing us to have a better work-life balance. How to choose a comfortable mattress? Let's look at the answers from the Municipal Market Supervision Bureau ↓

How many types of mattresses are there?

Currently, mattresses on the market mainly include spring mattresses, palm mattresses, and foam mattresses. The main product standards implemented include GB/T 26706-2011 "Soft Furniture Palm Fiber Elastic Mattresses", QB/T 1952.2-2011 "Soft Furniture Spring Soft Mattresses", and QB/T 4839-2015 "Soft Furniture Foam Mattresses", etc.

The "Simmons" we usually talk about is a spring mattress, which has a high market share. Among them, independent pocket springs are supported by individual springs, which can ensure that sleepers are not disturbed when turning over, and are currently the mainstream of mid-to-high-end spring mattresses.

Palm mattresses are characterized by good support, and palm mattresses processed with regular processes are often not prone to mildew. Common palm fiber elastic mattress products on the market are mainly mountain palm and coconut palm, with coconut palm being more common.

The inner core of foam mattresses is made by foaming natural latex, synthetic latex, polyurethane, etc., and has the characteristics of being soft, lightweight, and having good resilience, and is also favored by many consumers.

Is sleep quality related to the mattress?

Mattresses not only dominate 1/3 of our lives spent sleeping, but also dominate the remaining 2/3 of our health. It can be said that choosing the right mattress is equivalent to having a good start in life.

According to the requirements of GB/T 39223.5-2020 "Ergonomic Requirements for Healthy Homes Part 5: Mattresses", the pressure peak on the human lumbar spine should be 3 kPa~10 kPa, and the waist-hip pressure ratio should be within 35%~75%.

Studies have found that mattresses of medium hardness can improve shoulder and back pain and back stiffness, and can improve sleep quality by 60%.

How to test the comfort of a mattress?

When lying flat

Lie flat on the bed with your palms down, place your hands between the curve of your lower back and the mattress. If there is no gap between your back and the mattress, then the mattress is suitable. If there is a significant gap, the mattress may be too hard; if it is difficult to put your hand in, the mattress is too soft.

When lying on your side

When lying on your side, if you can feel that the contact between the mattress and your body is very close from your ribs, pelvis to ankles, then the mattress is relatively suitable. If not, the mattress is too hard; if you feel your hips are about to touch the bed board, the mattress is too soft, and long-term use will cause problems with the pelvis.

Whether the mattress has good support and comfort can also be judged according to the reference indicators given in GB/T 39223.5-2020 "Ergonomic Requirements for Healthy Homes Part 5: Mattresses", mainly through the following options.
