People spend about one-third of their lives in bed. Those who have experience know that choosing a mattress is more important than choosing a bed frame, as the mattress directly impacts sleep quality.
Some mattresses may appear affordable and high-quality, but they hide health risks! After replacing my mattress three times and making numerous mistakes, I learned that these 6 types of mattresses are a waste of money – avoid them no matter how cheap they are!
01 Mattresses with poor-quality filling materials
The filling material of a mattress plays a crucial role in its comfort and health index. Some unscrupulous manufacturers may use inferior filling materials, such as black cotton or synthetic latex, which can affect sleep quality in the long run!
Therefore, when choosing a mattress, we should choose products with high-quality, natural, and environmentally friendly fillings, preferably products with authoritative testing and certification to ensure quality.
02 Mattresses with exaggerated functionality
When buying a mattress, you should focus on its basic support and comfort, rather than being misled by flashy features. For example, some manufacturers oversell features such as "zero pressure" or "intelligent adjustment." These features are often impractical. Avoid mattresses with too many zones; until truly intelligent zoned mattresses are common, the so-called zoning doesn't have much practical use.
03 Mattresses using low-quality adhesives
Adhesives are a necessary auxiliary material in mattress production. Some unscrupulous manufacturers use inferior adhesives to reduce costs; these adhesives often contain many harmful substances. It is recommended to choose reputable mattress brands.
04 Mattresses that are too soft or too hard
A mattress that is too soft may cause excessive spinal curvature, while a mattress that is too hard may put pressure on the body. Therefore, you should choose the right firmness according to your body type and sleeping habits. It's best to try it out in a store for at least 10 minutes, rather than simply pursuing extreme softness or firmness.
05 Compressible portable mattresses
Compressible mattresses seem convenient; they expand and automatically inflate after delivery, making them suitable for renters. However, all types of compressed mattresses are relatively soft, and long-term use can be bad for the neck and spine. Avoid this type of mattress.
06 Mattresses that are too thick or too thin
Mattresses that are too thick may lead to poor ventilation, while mattresses that are too thin lack necessary support. Mattress thickness needs to be considered in conjunction with the bed frame height; it's recommended to choose the mattress first, then the bed frame, to avoid incompatibility.
The required thickness of a mattress also varies depending on the person. For babies, a mattress thickness of about 3 cm is sufficient; for children, about 12 cm is suitable; for teenagers, 15-20 cm is suitable; for adults, 20-25 cm is suitable; and for the elderly, about 18 cm is recommended.
